This project was an international collaboration from Design, Medicine, Nursing/Long-term care, and Public Health, sponsored by the Asian Smart Living 2015 International School held in Kaoshuing, Taiwan. The multidisciplinary team was tasked to conduct background research and assess the needs of the largest day-care for seniors in southern Taiwan in order to develop technology based solutions to improve quality of care and quality of life for both the staff and the clients. The assessments included qualitative interviews with day-care administration, staff, and clients along with a review of the services provided and the methods of gathering and recording data.
Results revealed a lack of a unified system leading to communication difficulties and lack of integration of care. The team developed a prototype for a single platform for a unified system to improve interactiveness and efficiency which would serve multiple stake holders. The vision of the STAR system included in the short-term gathering data to build the system, then mid-term utilizing data to collaborate with the national healthcare system, and long-term to network the health care system with the senior care system.
